Celebrate Marriage is an annual event held in Richmond in February around  Valentine's Day . We began this broad-based community wide event in 2004 to celebrate and promote healthy marriages in our communities.

Community wide Laugh Your Way to a Better Marriage coming August 20-21, 2010. Many congregations collaborating to provide a large enrichment event.  We provide a DEV "Tale of Two Brains" to show to a group in your congregation on your schedule. Call to become a partner church: 804- 288-3431

  • Jan 13 National Marriage Week Webinar: Pastors, church lay leaders and community marriage Initiative Leaders and anyone interested: Details at www.marriagewebinar.org

  • January 29-30: Training for Marriage Mentor Couples representing several congregations

  • February 7-14:  National Marriage Week Proclamations by Mayor and Governor

  • February 9:   Clergy and Community Leaders Breakfast Forum: “Some Concrete Suggestions for Strengthening Marriages at Your Church.”  Speaker: Dr Everett Worthington, VCU Psychology Chairman. At Second Baptist Church 9614 River Rd and Gaskins Rd.   RSVP 288-3431

  • February 19:  Choose Respect: Teen Dating Violence Prevention Forum at Peter and Paul Development Center.  6-7:30 PM. RSVP 288-3431

  • February 23:  Clergy and Counselor Certification Training for PREPARE/ENRICH – one of the most highly regarded national marriage enrichment programs Information/registration Link here  

  • February 27: It Takes Two; Keys to a Rewarding Relationship – teaching couples the skills to create a lasting marriage (Tuckahoe YMCA)

  • March 27: Black Marriage Day workshops for couples, singles and youth (link)

  • February-March:        Relationship Smarts – a program promoting healthy dating/relationship skills to youth (Peter Paul Development Center)

  • TBA:  How to Avoid Marrying a Jerk (or Jerkette) – a singles seminar to teach healthy dating skills and traits to look for in a partner

  • Jan 23, Feb 6,   Boot Camp for New Dads at Henrico Doctors, VCU-MCV, Johnston Willis Feb 20, Feb 27: and Richmond Community Hospitals– new dads teaching expecting dad how to care for baby and mom, and setting the stage for involved fatherhood.

Ongoing throughout the month:

  • Tale of Two Brains marriage program in 20-25 congregations – a humorous but realistic look at the differences men and women bring into a relationship

  • Various healthy relationship skills workshops for singles, youth and couples

  • Public Awareness Campaign using radio, newspapers, TV and brochures. Featured on COMCAST Newsmakers and 30-second TV spots on “Commitment” COMCAST  

  • Responsible Fatherhood” kiosk displays at Richmond Public Libraries
